Περίπου τριάντα ευρωβουλευτές εξέφρασαν σήμερα την έντονη ανησυχία τους σχετικά με τις “παρεμβάσεις” και τις “δυσφημιστικές εκστρατείες” του Ίλον Μασκ στην Ευρώπη, καλώντας την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή να αναλάβει δράση.
Οι βουλευτές αυτοί, οι οποίοι προέρχονται από σχεδόν όλα τα πολιτικά κόμματα, συμπεριλαμβανομένων της δεξιάς, της αριστεράς, των οικολόγων και του κέντρου, προειδοποιούν ότι ο Ίλον Μασκ δεν είναι απλώς ένας ξένος δισεκατομμυριούχος αλλά και πιθανός μελλοντικός συνεργάτης της κυβέρνησης Τραμπ, ο οποίος επιτίθεται στους πιο “αξιόπιστους” συμμάχους των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών.
Οι ευρωβουλευτές υπογραμμίζουν την ανάγκη για μια συντονισμένη αντίδραση από την πλευρά της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής, ώστε να “προστατευθούν οι θεσμοί και οι αξίες” της Ευρώπης από τέτοιες επιθέσεις. Η ανησυχία τους εστιάζει στο γεγονός ότι οι ενέργειες του Μασκ μπορεί να έχουν σοβαρές συνέπειες για τη δημόσια εικόνα και τη σταθερότητα των σχέσεων μεταξύ Ευρώπης και ΗΠΑ.
Σε επιστολή τους που απευθύνεται στην πρόεδρο της Επιτροπής Ούρσουλα φον ντερ Λάιεν, οι ευρωβουλευτές αναφέρονται κυρίως στην περίπτωση της «γερμανικής προεκλογικής εκστρατείας», όπου ο γεννημένος στη Νότια Αφρική επιχειρηματίας στηρίζει ανοιχτά την ακροδεξιά Εναλλακτική για τη Γερμανία (AfD).
«Η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή θα πρέπει να εξετάσει κατά πόσο συνάδουν οι πρόσφατες εκστρατείες δυσφήμισης του Μασκ με την Πράξη για τις Ψηφιακές Υπηρεσίες», προσθέτουν, αναφερόμενοι στον ευρωπαϊκό κανονισμό για τις ψηφιακές υπηρεσίες (Digital Service Act).
«Πού είναι η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή και τι σκοπεύει να κάνει τώρα που διαπίστωσε ότι η πλατφόρμα Χ δεν τηρεί την Πράξη για τις Ψηφιακές Υπηρεσίες;» διερωτώνται στην επιστολή τους που υπογράφεται, μεταξύ άλλων, από τη Ναταλί Λουαζό, τη Μαρία Γουόλς και την Ορόρ Λαλίκ.
Η Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή εποπτεύει τις ψηφιακές πλατφόρμες, με βάση αυτόν τον κανονισμό. Η στενή συνεργασία του Μασκ με τον Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, ο οποίος θα ορκιστεί πρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ την Δευτέρα, εγείρει ερωτηματικά για τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η Κομισιόν θα χειριστεί το θέμα της πλατφόρμας Χ, η οποία κατηγορείται ότι διασπείρει παραπληροφόρηση.
Πάντως, ένας ευρωβουλευτής από τη Σλοβενία έχει ζητήσει να απονεμηθεί στον Μασκ το Νόμπελ Ειρήνης, χαρακτηρίζοντάς τον «ήρωα της ελευθερίας της έκφρασης».
Την Τρίτη είναι προγραμματισμένο να γίνει στο Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο στο Στρασβούργο μια συζήτηση για τις κατηγορίες περί παρεμβάσεων του Ίλον Μασκ στα ευρωπαϊκά θέματα.
