Florida Gov Ron DeSantis is launching a probe into the Covid vaccines and their manufacturers to investigate 'any and all wrongdoing'.
The Republican, who has long been a critic of lockdowns, masks and vaccine mandates, has asked the state's Supreme Court to launch a grand jury investigation into how they were used in Florida and any long-term harms that could have come as a result.
He appeared to compare the rollout and use of the shots to how opioids were used in the lead up to America's still ongoing drug overdose crisis.
Dr Joseph Ladapo, the Sunshine state's surgeon general, was featured on a roundtable where the announcement was made as well, where he said the 'risk is much higher [with the Covid vaccines]... not in the same ballpark as other vaccines].
The pair have been praised for taking a different approach to the pandemic than many others, opting against mask orders and lockdowns, and instead allowing Floridians to decide how to manage risk for themselves.
Gov DeSantis also announced that Florida is creating a Public Health Integrity Committee, which may operate as a replacement to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC and Gov DeSantis have repeatedly clashed during the pandemic over masks, vaccines and about the reopening of cruise liners in the state.
It is unclear whether this move will effect Gov DeSantis' presidential bid, as a recent poll shows that he has overtaken both Donald Trump and Joe Biden as favorite for the 2024 election. The Florida Governor has not yet confirmed he will run in 2024, but it is speculated that he will.

Έφυγε από τη ζωή ο θρυλικός Γιάννης Διακογιάννης
Έφυγε από τη ζωή σε ηλικία 91 ετών ο Γιάννης Διακογιάννης. Πρόκειται για έναν από τους θρύλους της Ελληνικής αθλητικής δημοσιογραφίας, ενώ παράλληλα υπήρξε συγγραφέας, ραδιοσχολιαστής και παρουσιαστής της τηλεόρασης. Συνέδεσε το όνομα του με την «Αθλητική Κυριακή» της ΕΡΤ την οποία παρουσίαζε από το 1966 έως και το 1983. Γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα στις 5 Ιανουαρίου 1931 ενώ από πολύ μικρός ασχολήθηκε με τον αθλητισμό και συγκεκριμένα τον στίβο που ήταν η αδυναμία του.
Σπούδασε μουσική στο Παρίσι απ’ όπου καταγόταν η μητέρα του αλλά τελικά ασχολήθηκε με την αθλητική δημοσιογραφία. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι ξεκίνησε να μεταδίδει αγώνες του Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου από το 1954 στην Ελβετία. Τελευταία φορά που κάλυψε το Παγκόσμιο κύπελλο ήταν το 1998 στην Γαλλία. Κάλυψε πάρα πολλές κορυφαίες διοργανώσεις μεταξύ αυτών και τον τελικό του κυπέλλου το 1971 ανάμεσα στον Άγιαξ και τον Παναθηναϊκό στο Wembley. Το 1969 είχε παρουσιάσει το 9ο Ευρωπαϊκό Πρωτάθλημα Αθλητισμού που διεξήχθη στο Στάδιο «Γεώργιος Καραϊσκάκης» και αποτέλεσε την πρώτη μετάδοση αγώνων στίβου από ελληνικό τηλεοπτικό συνεργείο. Ήταν δηλωμένος φίλαθλος του Παναθηναϊκού.

Σε ανακοίνωση που εξέδωσε ο Πανελλήνιος Σύνδεσμος Αθλητικού Τύπου (ΠΣΑΤ), αναφέρει τα ακόλουθα:
“Η διοίκηση και τα μέλη του Πανελληνιου Συνδέσμου Αθλητικού Τύπου (ΠΣΑΤ) με απέραντη
θλίψη αποχαιρετούν το Γιάννη Διακογιάννη, τον πιό γνωστό αθλητικό συντάκτη, του οποίου η
φωνή ένωνε όχι μόνο τους φιλάθλους, αλλά όλους τους Έλληνες, όπως τραγουδούσε και ο
Κηλαϊδώνης. Το Γιάννη Διακογιάννη που ήταν ο δάσκαλος γεννεών αθλητικών δημοσιογράφων
και έγραψε ιστορία.
Η Ελλάδα θρηνεί για το χαμό του. Ο Γιάννης Διακογιάννης έφυγε από τη ζωή το πρωί της
Τρίτης 13 Δεκεμβρίου σε ηλικία 92 ετών. Είχε γεννηθεί στις 5 Ιανουαρίου 1931.
Η καριέρα του στην αθλητική δημοσιογραφία άρχισε ενωρίς και το 1959 γράφτηκε στη
δύναμη των μελών του ΠΣΑΤ. Το όνομα του συνδέθηκε με τα μεγάλα γεγονότα και βεβαίως με
την «Αθλητική Κυριακή», την μακροβιώτερη εκπομπή της Ελληνικής Τηλεόρασης. Εργάστηκε
σε πολλές εφημερίδες, αθλητικές και πολιτικές και εγραψε πολλά βιβλία δίνοντας βάρος στα
βιογραφικά των μεγάλων του αθλητισμού.
Το Δ Σ του ΠΣΑΤ θα επανέλθει με περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες για την τεράστια προσωπικότητα
του Γιάννη Διακογιάννη καθώς και για τον τόπο και το χρόνο της εξοδίου ακολουθίας”.
