Chinese authorities today apologized after the death of a three-year-old child who did not receive proper care in time due to strict health measures to contain COVID-19.

The so-called policy of zero cases of COVID-19 foresees isolation as soon as positive cases appear, mass testing, but also various degrees of lockdown, involving from neighborhoods to even entire cities.

Residents protest the measures, which sometimes cause food shortages and complicate access to health care for people who need it.

Images widely circulated on social media on Tuesday show residents of Lanzhou, in northwest China, desperately trying to revive a child after he suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.

In his message, his father complains about the delay in providing help and the fact that he could not leave his home due to the lockdown in the city. Residents expressed their anger.

Local police today released a detailed account of the events and expressed their "sincere condolences" to the parents.

" We sincerely accept the criticism as well as the scrutiny of the media and netizens (…) to prevent such accidents from happening again ," Lanzhou police also said in an unusual statement of regret.

The case caused a sensation at the beginning of the week and there was a wave of messages on the internet against the uncompromising policy of zero tolerance for COVID-19.

" His whole life was the three years of the pandemic ," wrote a netizen with the nickname Tuo, referring to the child's age.

This is the latest in a series of health emergencies that have been hampered by the zero-tolerance policy on COVID-19.

In the past month, the death of a 14-year-old girl, who did not receive treatment while in quarantine, sparked outrage in the country.

Internet censors quickly deleted all mention of the incident.

In January, a pregnant woman miscarried at the door of a hospital in Xi'an, northern China, due to the absence of a valid PCR test for the new coronavirus.

Οι κινεζικές αρχές ζήτησαν σήμερα συγγνώμη μετά τον θάνατο ενός παιδιού ηλικίας τριών ετών το οποίο δεν έλαβε έγκαιρα την κατάλληλη φροντίδα λόγω των αυστηρών υγειονομικών μέτρων για την αναχαίτιση της COVID-19.

Η λεγόμενη πολιτική μηδενικών κρουσμάτων COVID-19 προβλέπει απομόνωση αμέσως μόλις εμφανιστούν θετικά κρούσματα, μαζικά τεστ, αλλά και διαφόρων βαθμών λοκντάουν, που αφορούν από γειτονιές ως ακόμη και ολόκληρες πόλεις.

Κάτοικοι διαμαρτύρονται για τα μέτρα, τα οποία προκαλούν μερικές φορές ελλείψεις τροφίμων και περιπλέκουν την πρόσβαση σε υγειονομική περίθαλψη για ανθρώπους που την έχουν ανάγκη.

Εικόνες που κυκλοφόρησαν ευρέως στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης την Τρίτη δείχνουν κατοίκους της Λαντζόου, στη βορειοδυτική Κίνα, να καταβάλλουν απεγνωσμένες προσπάθειες να ανανήψει ένα παιδί, μετά την δηλητηρίασή του από μονοξείδιο του άνθρακα.

Σε μήνυμά του, ο πατέρας του διαμαρτύρεται για την καθυστέρηση παροχής βοήθειας και για το γεγονός ότι δεν μπορούσε να φύγει από το σπίτι του λόγω του λοκντάουν στην πόλη. Κάτοικοι εξέφρασαν την οργή τους.

Η τοπική αστυνομία δημοσίευσε σήμερα λεπτομερή απολογισμό των γεγονότων και εξέφρασε τα “ειλικρινή της συλλυπητήρια” στους γονείς.

“Δεχόμαστε ειλικρινά τις κριτικές όπως και τον έλεγχο των μέσων ενημέρωσης και των χρηστών του διαδικτύου (…) για να αποτρέψουμε να ξανασυμβούν τέτοια δυστυχήματα“, ανέφερε επίσης η αστυνομία της Λαντζόου σε μια ασυνήθιστη δήλωση μεταμέλειας.

Η υπόθεση αυτή προκάλεσε συγκίνηση στις αρχές της εβδομάδας και υπήρξε ένα κύμα μηνυμάτων στο ίντερνετ κατά της αδιάλλακτης πολιτικής της μηδενικής ανοχής στην COVID-19.

“Όλη του η ζωή ήταν τα τρία χρόνια της πανδημίας“, έγραψε ένας χρήστης του διαδικτύου με το ψευδώνυμο Τούο, αναφερόμενος στην ηλικία του παιδιού.

Πρόκειται για το πιο πρόσφατο από μια σειρά από επείγοντα περιστατικά υγείας η αντιμετώπιση των οποίων παρεμποδίζεται από την πολιτική μηδενικής ανοχής στην COVID-19.

Τον τελευταίο μήνα, ο θάνατος έφηβης 14 ετών, η οποία δεν έλαβε περίθαλψη καθώς βρισκόταν σε καραντίνα, προκάλεσε αγανάκτηση στη χώρα.

Οι λογοκριτές του ίντερνετ έσβησαν γρήγορα κάθε αναφορά στο περιστατικό.

Τον Ιανουάριο, έγκυος απέβαλε στην πόρτα νοσοκομείου της Σιάν, στη βόρεια Κίνα, λόγω απουσίας έγκυρου τεστ PCR για τον νέο κορονοϊό.
