| BIDEN WARNED IN FEBRUARY: IF RUSSIA INVADES, WE WILL TERMINATE NORD STREAM 2 |
The Nord Stream 1 and 2 natural gas pipelines, which run from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea, are leaking at several places. Three undersea pipelines suffered "unprecedented damage" in one day.
Both pipes are now unused but contain gas. The Russian government said it would not rule out a boycott. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen says it is a deliberate attack.
On Tuesday afternoon, the European gas price rose due to the leaks, which came to light after the pressure in the pipes dropped. The Nord Stream 2 pipeline would become operational at the end of the year.
In early February 2022, US President Joe Biden warned: "If Russia invades...then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it."
Reporter: "But how will you do that, exactly, since...the project is in Germany's control?" Biden: "I promise you, we will be able to do that."
