Energy lockdown? The German Minister of Education is already warning of school closures due to a lack of gas
The latest statements by Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger show how far the plans for energy saving measures seem to go : According to media reports, she is already warning of class cancellations due to the gas shortage.
Stark-Watzinger establishes a connection between school closures caused by the pandemic and warns of teaching restrictions and class cancellations as a result of the gas shortage. Apparently there are fears that the education of children in Germany will again not find a place on the list of priorities of the federal government even in this self-inflicted crisis - even though the harmful school lockdowns in the so-called pandemic were and are rightly massively criticized.
The minister points out that many schools and universities are already trying to use potential energy savings. This was also confirmed by the head of the GEW education union, Maike Finnern. However, she pointed out that many schools were ailing and in need of modernization. Of course, this is not the fault of the students, who should finally be taught reliably there.

The fear of bottlenecks in the gas supply has recently intensified because the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, which is important for Germany, is to be completely canceled for maintenance from July 11th. The German authorities fear that Russia will then shut it down for longer than is actually necessary for political reasons. Most recently, Moscow had drastically reduced the amount of gas flowing through the pipeline to Germany.
In fact, the amount of gas was forced to be reduced because - due to sanctions - a necessary turbine is missing. Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the one who is deliberately trying to harm Europe (and thus also Germany): Ukraine has already cheekily asked Canada not to deliver the turbine, which is so important for the EU's gas supply.
